VA Drywall Contractors

Can anyone recommend a drywall contractor in the northern VA area for a remodel job? I will be hanging the drywall myself, but want to contract out the finishing (taping, mudding, etc.).

I don't know any contractors in your area but generally word of mouth is the best method of finding a contractor..... but you still need to check out their work prior to hiring them. You might check in at your local paint store or drywall supply house.

The biggest thing you might run into is most drywall finishers like to work behind hangers they know. While some diyers do a fine job of hanging drywall others [thru ignorance] will hang the rock in a manner that requires more work to get a decent finish on.

Finding someone shouldn't be too hard..if your housing market is anything like the rest of the country..there will be plenty of good people who could do it and would love the extra money for a weekend job. Problem is it won't be a "contract" job. Too small for most companies to devote a crew.

I'd be wary of people who say "Sure..I can do sheetrock" w/o checking their work. There's rockers...and then there are ROCKERS.

Thanks for the advice. I have a gypsum application guide that goes into great detail about hanging drywall, etc., so I'm pretty confident with doing that part. I've done mudding, sanding before, but its a royal PITA, which is why I'm going to hire someone to do it. Plus we have a baby on the way come February so it needs to be done quick.

What room(s) does this encompass? Walls or walls AND ceilings?

Walls only and quite a bit of patch work. I would say about 350-400 square feet of new work and several small patches where I removed walls, cut holes for running wires and plumbing.
