L Bead - mud up to or over ?

Hi,

I installed L bead on the drywall around windows. What I did on the first coat was put masking tape over the L bead to prvent getting mud on it. But it seems to me maybe I should mud OVER the L bead? Or should the L Bead be "naked" with no mud on it?

Thanks!

...AR

As I understand...you mud over the long edge, up to the 90 degree bend, then paint the short edge.

Mud over L metal on the 1 1/4 side. It will be obvious because you have holes in it. If you don't have holes you may have J bead that you don't mud over.

Okay it could be J bead. It is white with no holes. I get confused on the terminaology.
