3rd coat premix joint compound

The first coat joint compound was setting type the 2nd coat is premix joint compound. The 2nd coat was applied about 7 hours ago. I will not able to work on this patch for next 3 days. My plastering skill is very limited. Can I apply 3rd coat of premix joint compound 7 hours after 2nd coat was applied and let it dry for 3 days?

Sounds like you are adding too much new material. Additional layers go out, not up, as in feathering out to each side. Put a straight edge across those joints and it will tell you where the mud should go.

High humidity can slow the drying process, but too much mud over the tape can ruin the job. Is it raining outside?

Are you slightly thinning the last coat of JC? Makes feathering so much easier, and as Bud says, you should be thinking "out", not over. If you are using a 12" knife, hold it square on the joint and look at the blade, there's where you need mud, in the crack between the wall and the knife....not on the joint, but to the sides.

I would add that if the 2nd coat of mud is still gray - it's not dry enough to apply the next coat.
