I am thinking about putting in wainscoting on my stairs but ran into a problem when I started measuring. I am going to smooth the wall with a sander and paint it with high gloss paint to make it look like wood, then put on a bottom rail, top rail, stiles, and a chair-rail cap. The problem: The baseboard currently running down the stairs is only 5/8" thick which isn't thick enough for the bottom rail and quarter round to cover where the baseboard and bottom rail meet. Should I add another section of baseboard to make it twice as thick and enough room for some quarter round or is there another way to make the transition smooth between the baseboard and the bottom rail?

Hello All, Back in October my buddy and I installed an new Jeld-wen Sliding patio door. The door went it very nicely and looks great! (Except for the interior walls - see photo) So I need to figure out how to fix the walls. They have about a 1/4" (See where my finger is pointed) of plaster over the drywall. I have never had to fix plaster over drywall before and I am unsure what to buy? I have fixed plenty of drywall patches in walls etc. but never something to this extent.
