Patch from leak
Leak is 99% fix will be taken care of in spring. Wide doesn't like my patch until then. So my plan is to cut the drywall to the size for now and finish in spring once leak is 100%.
Any way I should cut this to make it look better, it goes all the way to in top of the window sill. Never really patch and this doesn't look easy.

Casing needs to come off the door.
All those crooked cuts need to be redone so there straight.
Easiest way is to just cut along side the stud or rafter and add a 2 X 4 to have something to screw the drywall to.
Install the ceiling first.

You can use as many or few pieces as you want, more joints just means more taping/finishing. Extra joints at a door have a greater likelihood of cracking but shouldn't be an issue at a window.
What needs to be done to stop the leak 100%?

I put tar on some of the seams where the shingles had been worn away by the extra water off the dormer. But I had one time when it leaked after I did this but for the past 6 months nothing. Plan is a new roof.

Since it only leaked once in 6 months and you intend to reroof when the weather gets better, I'd be inclined to finish the drywall work .... should make mama happy and your life easier
