Small opening in ceiling around light fixture.

Any ideas on how to fix this gap around this light fixture?

If that is busted drywall it's going to be difficult to try and patch with just mortar to fill in the gap but I'd probably give that a try first.

Remove the light, cut a donut piece of cardboard and fill in the back side. If you can get it filled in solid then sand and cut the opening to fit the fixture then sand , prime and repaint the ceiling!

If that doesn't work they you may need to cut out a bigger piece of drywall and patch that in!

That looks like an old work LED replacement fixture. Remove it from the ceiling to get a better idea of the damage. It's hard to do any repair with it in place.
