Spackle this or Use Joint Compound? (see Pics)

Hi, I live in the attic apartment and at the top of the ceiling where the flat top (plywood underneath) and the 45 degree sides (drywall) meet, over the last ten years cracks have appeared. So I have cut out the loose prior material as you can see in these pictures.

For repair, I know I should first paint the wood with primer and let dry.

Question. Should I then use the fiberglass mesh tape and fill in with Spackle or fill in with Joint compound? The area is maximum 1/8" deep and maximum width of 2.5".

Thank you!

Neither spackle or joint compound adhere well to wood over large areas. In your scenario mesh tape and j/c would be better than spackle.

Just for the future, if you ever have to ask the question again, the answer is joint compound. Spackle is only for very small repairs like nail holes.

You dont need to prime the wood and for that repair you could just fill with JC, it will adhere suficiently, if you have some mesh tape then feel free to insert!
