Cracks in Ceiling

Hello:

We have a 10 year old home built on a clayey soil and rocks underneath.

The house has in some rooms sloped ceiling. In most of these rooms, at the intersection of the ceiling and the slope, I see that there is a crack all along. In addition, in the living area, there is a crack is in the center of the cealing. When I have heard that this is a very common problem in houses built on clayey soils.

The cracks becomes prominent (around 2 mm) in winter. I had sealed the crack with a caulk but it is obviously not a permanent fix.

Is there any cheaper way to get this fixed?

I really appreciate your help.

Regards

Actually you've already hit on the fix with the caulk. Probably not much else you can do with it since the crack opens and closes somewhat with the changing weather and of course the house may settle some more. Best bet would be to seal it in the winter when the crack is at its widest with a good quality paintable caulk. At the location you're talking about it shouldn't be too noticable.
