drywall over plaster ceiling

I will be installing drywall over a plaster textured ceiling. Will I run into a problem installing drywall screws through the plaster.?

It is a pain in the neck to get the 2" screws, or whatever length your dealing with, To go in straight. Also the old wood is hard as a rock. But other than that if you use long enough screws and make sure you screw into a stud you shouldn't have a problem.

I did this in my bathroom. Just be sure you hit the joists with your screws. A little construction adhesive on the back of the drywall doesn't hurt either. Be sure to have a helper as well. The easiest way to be sure you're hitting joists, since you can't see them, is to measure them out and actually snap a few chalk lines on the drywall. Good luck!
