Ripples in drywall

I have a series of ripples in the drywall next to my door frames.

What is the best way to prep these before painting?

If the ripples seem to be loose paper bubbling up, take a utility knife and cut out the loose paper then give them a coat or two of drywall compound and sand smooth. If the ripples seem to be solid, use a wide drywall trowel and just go over the ripples "with the grain" using drywall compound. It may tyake two or three coats to get it sand out smooth. Use a sealer before painting over the drywall compound otherwise it will suck your paint in.

Hello, If these are exterior doors you may want to check for a roof or siding leak. That will cause the problem you have sometimes. Good Luck Woodbutcher
