flea medication for cats
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FRONT LINE PLUS FOR FLEAS & THE FRONT LINE TOP SPOT FOR FLEAS.
THE FRONT LINE TOP SPOT IS ABOUT 25% CHEAPER.WE HAVE 7 CATS WHICH WE KEEP IN GOOD SHAPE & SO FAR NOT ALOT OF FLEAS HAVE WE SEEN.WE WANT TO ORDER ONE OF THE ABOVE BUT NOT SURE WHICH WOULD BE MORE SUITABLE FOR OUR CATS.
I DON'T WANT TO PAY THE EXTRA MONEY IF THERE NO NEED.
WE LIVE IN THE CITY SO CATS WOULD MOST LIKELY NEVER GO INTO WOODS.
THANKS--MCCOY

From what I've read on both of them, I can't really tell much difference between them other than the price.
The one difference I did notice was that the more expensive one kills fleas during all stages of their lives.
Both kill ticks, too - but even the more expensive one only does that for the first two weeks after treatment. Both are water resistent as well.

Top Spot for Toy Dogs
Top Spot is not as effective and is intended for puppies from 8 to 10 weeks old and toy dogs under 10 lbs.
Plus is for larger puppies over 10 pounds, over 10 weeks, and dogs over 10 lbs.
Please see this page for an explanation and for a price comparison between the major pet supply sites: http://pugcircus.tripod.com/flea_con...omparison.html

frontline/frontline topspot
I just checked
There it tells the different products they carry.
Both of these come for different size of dogs.
Frontline top spot does not appear to have an IGR(insect growth regulator, which prohibits reinfestation) It does not mention killing the different stages.
Check their website.
You get what you pay for. I would always choose an IGR.

Reason I prefer IGR
Little more time now. Wanted to tell you, in case you haven't thought about it, that the product that prevents reinfestation on your animal will also prevent a flea from laying eggs in your home or yard that will produce more fleas.
It takes a day or two for all fleas to die. You pickup new fleas and the the cycle begins again. IGR will prevent that.
Also, must make sure that the flea remedy you choose is good to use on a cat.
Don't know if you are aware that some spot treatments will become ineffective if your pet gets wet.
The frontline that I am acquanted with, will last through a weekly bath and still do it's job. (I groomed for several years and bathed several dogs every week using frontline, so I know that it works)
Am wondering if the frontline top spot will do that or not, not familiar with that one, but most of the cheaper products do not survive getting wet.

All that is fine and dandy. I've been a cat owner all my life, and we always went with shampoos. There is a new shampoo out there that is a dry shampoo. You rub it on their hair the way it is with a towel. You don't have to get them wet. Plus they love it because they think they are getting an incredible petting. Ask your vet about it and in the long run you do save money. One bottle lasts (my 2 cats) about 4-6 months. The only thing is that it has to be done weekly. But it's easy and smells nice. It also shines and conditions their coat.
