What is he licking? I haven't seen a puppy that doesn't love to lick faces, he's just thanking you for adopting him.

licking

Well , hands, face, legs. I am not a big fan of letting her lick my face, lets see how can I put this right, I think she is trying to get the taste off of her tongue from where she licked last. I wud just like to get her to stop, most (all) of my friends don't like it. Even my granddaughter doesn't like it.
any tips ???

Da Bear

I've had to work with my puppy on this issue, too. We've gotten it now where we will touch noses and he won't lick my face.

To do this we make a sound like "aahhhnttt" (like clearing your throat) when he licks us. Any licking on us. We pet him and are kind while doing it but just that sound and saying 'no lick' we've about broken him from the licking problem.

Dylan was about 7 months when we got him, and he's now 9 months. He's gone about a month now without a problem. Keep working with your puppy and help him learn what is acceptable in your family.

As posted, it is a natural way for a dog to show affection - licking - but we can teach them other ways of showing it as well. I, like you, prefer not to be licked especially by a dog that I know has just chewed an old chew toy out in the yard, or had heaven knows what in his mouth!

Please post back with what results work for you,

Kay

Dog licking

Training your dog to do a trick such as sit up, shake hands, roll over will give him a less sloppy way to ask for attention. When he forgets himself and tries to lick you, redirect his behavior. As indicated, dogs lick to tell you they love you and to get attention.

Obsessive Licking

I have an obsessive licker too. I have talked to my Holistic Vet about it and this is what we are doing.
1) when she licks tell her to sit then praise her, by doing this you are interrupting her licking with a task, which temporarily takes her mind off the licking. Never yell at her for it then she will only lick more. Another thing we did was order Flower Essences for animal "Anxiety" from Green Hope Farm in New Hampshire, I have been putting 5 drops in her water every day for about 3 weeks now and I can definately tell a difference. I was quite surprised, for I had never heard of Flower Essences. They are a mixture of many beautiful flowers that over time have come to group for different problems for people and animals, I also bought a bottle of "spraying" for one of my cats that I have been having a problem with lately NOT going in the box and that too has been a pleasant surprise I think he is doing better to.

But if you licker is a puppy it could also just be a stage
