Question Cat playing w/food bowl ??

Our cat has been pulling at his food bowl. We've seen him do this a couple of times lately, actually pulling it and turning it over and eating out of it.

His metal food and water containers are on a metal form thing that holds both of them together off the floor. Tonight after my husband filled the bowl up with food, our cat dragged to whole thing food & water over under the dinningroom table about two feet away.

We thought it was funny, but scolded him anyway. I know dogs do this but I never thought our cat would. He's the only pet in the house (besides a fish).
He is a persian and very, very spoiled.

Oh, just before my husband came home he was howling in the kitchen where his food is. I ignored it because I knew he had food in there (it just wasn't full like he likes it)

Why is he doing this? He seems to like the food (Purina One - Salmon flav)
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Cat playing with food

Most cats do not like to eat or drink out of bowls if the sides touch their whiskers. They will dump the food and eat it off the floor. Also, if a bowl is too deep, the cat may take the food out for convenience. A wider, shallower bowl will probably eliminate this behavior. If the cat is big enough to moved both the food and water, then it's likely he needs larger, heavier, rather flat containers.
