Ear mites

It is important to treat your dog's ears, the haircoat and the pet's environment for the mites. There are a number of approved medications for ear mites. Flea control products that kill adult fleas will kill mites. These may be used to treat the haircoat and the house, according to the product directions.

How do you know your dog has earmites? Dogs with long ears are known to have ear infections(yeast, bacteria) etc. so going to the vet may give you a better idea of what is in there and how to treat it.

The ears in a animal infected with earmites will usually have a lot of black debri, which is dried blood. You may even see fresh blood. They usually do not have an odor.
Infections tend to be very red in the ear, more of a brownish color, sometimes even have puss-like debri, and usually have a bad odor.
You can get earmite medication at pet stores, but it is not as effective as what you would get at a veterinarian's office.
In other words, if it is earmites, and you get a product from a pet store, you may have to treat the ears a lot longer time than if you were to get medication from a veterinarian.
