Unhappy Spaying of dog trouble

My lab got spayed last friday, well today I took her in to get the staples removed. This morning I noticed some swelling. Anyways, I take her in and they call me in and ask me If she was jumping around. The whole recovery time she has been in her crate or laying around the house, except for when I walked her on her leash. Well, they think that her inside stitches might of popped. I dont see how this could be possible, seeing I didnt let her get overactive. Now, they give me a infection medicine, and a anti-inflammitory, and tell me to put hot compresses on her belly and come back in another week. I have never heard of a dog having to take 2 weeks to heal. So I asked the vet what would happen if this doesnt go down, she said they would have to go in and put more stitches and then restaple the outside again. I could be wrong, but does it seem that maybe there wasnt enough stitches in the first place. And of course, there would be a charge to go in again and fix it. The money is not an issue here, its the point of having to go inside her and fix something that was done wrong, obviously. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or maybe experienced the same thing?

Thanks

On the other hand, sometimes things don't work out. I have learned one thing over the years: that working on living beings is not exacting as repairing a lawn mower. It is entirely possible that she simply coughed and pulled a stitch or two loose.

I know you are right about working on living beings, but if the vet feels that that could be the problem wouldnt you think she would want to fix it right away? Or maybe take a xray? Right now my dog looks pregnant (early pregnancy)

I guess only time will tell

Thanks for the response

If there is an infection, the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory with the compresses will resolve it. Having ruled that out, surgery would likely be the next step. More surgery is more dangerous to your dog than waiting to rule out the infection. An x-ray would not show failed sutures or infection unless a sustantial abcess had developed contrasting with solid structures.

l recommend that you talk to your vet about your questions. He should be able to gladly and competently answer them for you.

My vet is a thorough and amiable fellow who seems to want the owners to understand fully about their pets' health and treatments.
