cat scratching furniture

We have a cat that loves to scratch our new sofa. Did it to the old one to.
I have put duct tape on the corners to prevent any more damage.
Wondering if others have a better solution?
Thanks

Years ago, I made my cat a scratching post from a real, bark-covered log. She preferred it to anything else.

Cure for Claws...

Another option is to put furniture guards on the corners of the couch, chair etc. You can find them at a variety of places. If you Google it, you should come up with some places to purchase them.

They are basically heavy duty plastic corner covers the cats can't claw through.

Good Luck,

Cats Clawing Furniture

After many years of wondering why cats always go after furniture I have finally figured it out and how to stop it!

Cats like clawing furniture because it is STABLE and usually tall enough for them to completely stretch their bodies out with. It does not move or budge when they dig into it - unlike those little
scratching posts.

You can take a three foot 1x6 board, wrap it tightly with sisal rope, weight it very well and anchor it in the upright position - and believe it or not they will LOVE IT! You can also rub the sisal with a little catnip to draw them to it.

Trust me, they leave your furniture alone if you provide them with a long enough, stable enough, piece of furniture of their own.

We made the scratching posts for her(cat). Also, had a log carrier, for the wood stove, availble. she just likes the furniture. you know how cats are, they pretty much do as they please.

Tape, tape, tape, and a squart gun

Every one is right about the cat pole!! Somecats have "hard heads" so make little tape balls, like the kind you would use to put a poster on the wall with, and stick it to the spot the cat likes!! Arm yoour self with a squart gun oF a good squart bottel, when you see the cat doing what it is not to do, make a sound (PSSSSsss) is what I use and shoot the cat ( with the water). After a about a week sometimes less, all you got to do is make the sound when the cat is "bad" Good Luck

My cat finally stopped scratching my sofa when I bought him a corrugated cardboard scratching board. You can buy one at pretty much any pet store. I put it next to the spot that he scratched on the sofa and temporarily put post-its on the sofa to discourage him from scratching it. In no time at all he began scratching the cardboard and left the sofa alone.

I have tried that to..Any cardboard boxes left over from shopping we put around the targeted furniture and the like. Works sometimes.
We are against de-clawing,so iguess we have to "adjust".
Thanks
