fish: diy uv sterilizer ideas needed

hey everyone. I was just wondering if there's any fish fanatics here that might be able to help me out. There's something called a U.V (ultra violet) sterilizer that's sit's inline with water flow & sterilizes water as well as cleans it. A good idea to have, but unfortunately where I live, these things cost alot of money. Anyone have ideas on how I'd go about building this thing?

You might find a better price for one online. You will need the right size for your aquarium.

Do you need a uv sterilizer on your system, let's have some details on your tank and existing filtration system.

UV sterilizers can be good, but they can also kill the GOOD bacteria in your tank. Going with an adequate protein skimmer instead is my recommendation. I had (for several years, but no longer) a 72 gallon salt water reef aquarium, and the protein skimmer along with a gravity filter was all I needed.
