My cat seems to be having difficulty coughing up a hairball for a couple days now, any suggestions on home or otherwise remedies?
thanks.

My first question would be are you sure it is a hairball and not an upper respiratory problem?
If it is a hairball for certain, the best thing I have found for this is to use a bit of plain petroleum jelly and rub it on the face, so they have to clean it off. Not a bunch mind you, about a teaspoon is often enough to do the trick nicely.
This is a tried and true method for me, though if your cat is brushed and combed often, you will seldom have trouble with hairballs, at least in my many years of cat breeding/ownership this has proved to be the case for me.
Hope this helps.
