Question Dog Clipping

Could someone please let me know what size clipper blades are best to use on my 2 dogs. They are one small mixed breed, and a mixed collie. I have been told that number ten blade will clip the coat too short and too near the skin. Thanks for any help

Hi Conanlucy,

I don't know anything about clipping dog hair, but my first resource for such an answer would be an experienced dog groomer. You might consider a visit to one and find out what blades they use for each dog and watch them do it. If they don't allow you to watch in a shop, consider one of the mobile units that might allow you to watch.

I did a google search with the term:
dog + clipping blades
and found several helpful sites. Here's one that talks about the blade number, how to clip and more.

the higher number you go, the shorter the cut. a five or four blade for your mix breed, #3 for your collie mix
