How Does One Correct the "Submission Piddle"?

Had a bad experience 30 years ago that affected the War Dept. quite negatively. I brought a 10-week-old puppy home, and as it grew older, it also grew a habit of piddling a few ccs on the patio whenever we came outside and approached it.

The dog had to go.

Well, the piddle stained the concrete and the experience stained the old lady as well. But now I am getting another chance. Can someone please tell me a couple of methods of nipping this all-too-natural instinct in the bud?

Or else I'll have to go...

It sounds like you are anticipating a problem that may not happen. Here's some helpful info.

Newt,

Actually, I was anticipating not doing the right thing should the behavior appear. The link you sent me contained several examples of what my wife and I were doing that reinforced the pinkle problem (going directly to the puppy and greeting him head-on and slightly bent over, making a big deal saying "hello", etc.), and I appreciate you sending it to me. Definitely a page worth saving!
