Feeding pets a premium quality pet food with human quality ingredients is recommended. Many supplement with chicken/turkey necks, livers, gizzards, hearts, etc. Others prepare all pet foods, serving veggies and meats. Some cook and some serve raw. Some provide vitamins and other dietary supplements. No two dogs or cats have exactly the same dietary needs, just like humans. Much has been written about dietary nutrition for pets. A steady diet of gizzards would not be good for humans or dogs. Check with your vet for nutritional advice for your pet. Nutritional needs tend to vary dependent on age.

Perhaps the following article will answer your requirements re: protein needs for dogs. This will vary among breeds and ages and performance of dogs.

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1661&articleid=702

See this article re: nutrition facts for gizzards: http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-B00001-01c20Ah.html

Cholesterol, high fat, and transfats!! As with humans, it's best to mix up sources of protein and other foods to achieve an overall balanced diet over a period of a few days. As our mothers used to say, "Too much of anything good is bad for you."

I would not add people food at all. A good dog food has everything they need and the puppy food has everything puppy's need. Trust me, from experience, you're just asking for trouble down the road.

Lactating female dogs have special needs, just as with new human moms. It is best to discuss diet with your vet for your specific breed and stage and age in development.
