Barking Dog

My dog barks way too much. She is a 7 year old Jack Russell Terrier and the older she gets, the worse it gets. She barks when she hears or sees anything outside. Any advice on how to get her to stop???

She should be stopped from barking when it's not appropriate. You can touch her and go shhh to stop her. I'm wondering if she's alone alot and getting long walks outside of the house twice a day. Often when dogs bark at activity outside it means they are bored or feeling couped up. We just had a post on this you might want to read.

Make sure you're spending enough time with your dog. Also, make sure it's getting enough exercise. It's possible the barking is just a result of pent up energy (in a breed that is naturally energetic).

Also, you could try providing a little white noise in the area where the dog is barking. Maybe an air purifier or fan.

We had a simillar problem where our pomeranian would bark in the middle of night at outside sounds that we wouldn't normally even hear. I bought an air purifier and stuck it in the corner of the room. The white noise it produces masks the outside sounds and she hardly ever barks at night anymore.
