Brushing dog's teeth helps keep them clean. There are special dog toothbrushes and toothpaste at the pet store. The rubber ones that fit over the finger are more dog friendly.
Feeding only crunchy, dry food helps keep tartar scraped off teeth. Some brands of dog food are marketed as dental defense. Always give some crunchy food after feeding soft to help clean the teeth.
There are products like PlaqueOff, which is a gritty powder added to pet food and is supposed to help with plaque removal. If dog has tartar, this is best left for the vet to remove.
