Hissing?

We have three cats, 2 females, 1 male. 1 male and female are the same age (brother and sister), and our 3rd is the daughter of this female. The daughter recently gave birth to 3 kittens, and everytime she leaves the kitten nest to feed, or have a rest, the other female will hiss at her, for no apparent reason. Any ideas? We are having no such problems with the male.

Hi Codyy,

The mother is telling the daughter to back off. I'm thinking that the mother is spayed and since the daughter has just had a litter, the mother is stressed about the situation. I would suggest you watch carefully for other signs of aggression from the mother to the nursing daughter. You may need to separate them. I would also suggest you spay the daughter as soon as she stops nursing. That will help.
