Weird method of drinking
#1

Hello! One of my cats has a weird method of drinking from the water bowl. He lies down on his side next to the water bowl and drinks water that way. It is strange because whenever milk or something is spilled onto the kitchen floor, he drinks standing up. Is the laying down drinking a medical issue or is it just a sign of individuality? Thank you much for any input.

My cat that just died would dip his paw in, then lick the water off..I don't think I ever saw him drink "normally". Even when he would get all excited about the water in the bathroom sink being on a trickle..he still did the paw and lick thing.

The normal tongue movement of a cat isn't a lapping motion, but an inverted lapping where the tongue actually curls under. Sometime when you REALLY have nothing to do, lay down with your cat and note the motion of his/her tongue. It's funky!

Back when the tub faucet leaked, this guy would lick the bottom of the tap to get water. It is even more disturbing to see him try to get into the water of the toilet right after I used it (before flushing). He also liked to lick a sink faucet that leaked at one time.

They actually make cat fountains. The water is recirculated through a carbon filter. I have read it is not natural behavior for cats in the wild to drink water. They rely on moisture from the food. In fact there is quite of bit if literature that cats may not drink enough water. The fountains are a way of encouraging them to drink.
My cat who is very calm and not normally skittish runs if you walk in while she is drinking. It's almost as if she thinks she is doing something wrong.

This cat seems to appreciate being petted while eating or drinking. To get him to the food bowl behind the basement stairs halfway down, I have to pet him a few strokes to get him through the door. Funny how he and his brother liked raw pancake batter, but not cooked pancakes that I couldn't eat yesterday morning. off topic, but has anyone else seen the spray pancake batter like reddy-whip. I saw it at BJ's the other day and I was thinking that laziness hit a new height. Like it is that hard to add water to a mix. That is kind of lazy I admit, but the last time I made pancakes from scratch they were rather leadish (not a word I know, but couldn't resist.).

Very cute video. Was he trying to get rid of evidence of killing the family bird? All you need now is the video on how to toilet train your cat
