Bearded/Uro setup

I have some questions about setting up my new uromastyx tank. I'm getting it fairly soon (I've been told) and I want to get everything set up properly. I was thinking of creating a setup similar to my bearded dragons. The only thing that had me in a knot was the substrate. I was trying to decide between bird seed (what kind) and play sand. I have a ceramic heat bulb which works good for heat. I don't want to get an mvb for that intense heat because a regular CHE with a fluorescent uvb bulb works just as great in conjunction. With the CHE I use the new zilla's desert series tube lights (T5s) that came out. They work great with the che and I find it to work as well as some mvbs I tried a little while ago for one beardie enclosure. I found it cheaper, too and I like them. But as for the substrate I'm a bit confused. I've never had a uro before. It's a Mali by the way.

Well, I am not familiar with the set-up of this sort of tank, so I will hope that someone who knows more than I can pipe in here. In the meantime I will try to do some research and see if I can help.
