cat losing too much fur?

First, we will be calling vet this week for appointment/consult.

Pumpkin was recently diagnosed as diabetic, almost 2 months ago. After increasing his insulin dose via phone consult, he has improved a lot. Gaining weight, eating well, playing. He's about 7 years old. Neutered tabby. No blood tests since initial diagnosis.

His urine balls are still large, maybe not as large as before insulin. Recently we've noticed that he is losing a lot of fur during brushings. He always had a thick coat of fur and likes brushing with wire brush (he likes it hard, too.) It's obvious that a lot of fur is coming off; we can tell by looking at him (without brushing) that tufts of fur are coming loose. Any ideas?

PABugman,

It may be caused by the diabetes and/or the insulin. It isn't unusual for that to cause some things such as shedding. I am glad that you are going to call/see the vet tomorrow, as I can only guess at this point. If he's eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally, I wouldn't worry overly much, but the vet will better assess the situation. Do keep us posted.
