Question

I am trying to put together the right materials for building a kitty condo. I have industrial carpet staples, a pneumatic stapler/nailer, good carpet, sisal rope, wood posts and a 3/4" piece of plywood for the base. What is the material they normally use for those tubes? Is it pressed paperboard or something? Where can I find it? It's pretty thick stuff - about 1/2 inch. Is it normally hard to find or am I looking in all of the wrong places?

It's probably cardboard tubing (just really large).

I imagine it's hard to come by if you aren't associated with some kind of industry that just happens to use the rolls for something.

BUT, I thought of this - you could get a 5-gallon bucket (new or from the bakery or meat dept at the grocery store), cut the bottom out, and cover that with carpet.

Yeah... it is called sono tube and if you ask at any building supply place they will know what you want. It will come in sizes from 6" on up to 24". I would avoid the staples except on the bottom of your base. You can attach the carpet with liquid nails or hot glue and just use the staples to hold the carpet until the glue drys, then pull them out.

Or you can just use a square "tube" instead.
