Difference between Canon EF and EF-S SLR lenses

I am in the process of buying a canon digital rebel xt and notice some places have package deals with an ef lens and some with an efs lens. Can someone tell me the difference.
Thanks for any input.

The EF-S lenses are made for the digital SLR cameras and will not work on any other SLR (even another Canon). The reason is they sit inside the camera deeper than the EF lenses. The EF lenses will fit on any recent Canon SLR, digital or film.

Quality wise? The EF-S that comes with the camera is ok, but you will still want other lenses. I don't know much about the other two EF-S lenses. Google for reviews.

The EF lenses are good lenses.

Thanks for the info Bob. I appreciate it. Do you know if the quality is about the same for other manufacturers lenses such as quantaray or sigma. Are they of the same quality that canon makes?

Sigma is ok. They are not on par with the top of the line Canon lenses, though. I haven't checked in a while, but last year only Canon was making EF-S lenses.
