HP M407 Photosmart camera shuts down at startup

I have a HP M407 Photosmart digital camera, when you start it up the green video display comes on momentarily then lines run vertically on the display and it shuts down. Sometimesthis happens, sometimes it works fine.

Changing the batteries hasn't helped.

There are a couple of things that can cause this other than a bad camera.
First is the memory card could be bad.
Remove it from the camera and turn it on. If you get an error message about not having a card installed this could be the problem.

You could also try to reset the camera's operating system.
Here is the procedure from HP's site:

M-Series

1. Open the Battery/Memory card door and remove the memory card.
2. * Remove the power source form the camera.
If powering the camera with batteries only, remove the batteries for approximately 15 seconds.
* If using an optional HP AC power adapter only to power the camera, disconnect it from the camera for at least 15 seconds.
* If using batteries and the HP AC power adapter, remove both for at least 15 seconds.
3. Reinsert the optional memory card.
4. Reinsert the batteries and/or reconnect the HP AC power adapter to the camera.
5. Close the Battery/Memory card door.

Here is more info on your cam from HP's site.
If you get the cam to work you should consider updating its firmware.

Edit:
I just re-read your post and realized this only happens intermittently.
Maybe yor memory card is not seated properly.
Also, updating the firmware if yours is an older version would be a good idea anyway.

I tried all of those steps with a tech online last night. The lines have disappeared for now. The other problem they were unable to help me with is my camera viewing screen display is green, sort of like in those war movies when they look through a tank scope. Is it supposed to be real color like a television or camcorder screen?
