MY PICTURES folder

When i upload my pics from my H.P. 720 camera to my computer the
pics don't show up in the MY PICTURES folder anymore. I can find them
in my computer document files and harddrive, but they don't upload directly in MY PICTURES folder anymore. I uninstalled and installed my H.P. software CD
but no luck. The H.P. director help section didn't help.
I also noticed that my camera does not show in the device manager, but the camera is recoginized in the upload process which i thought strange.
If need be, i can copy and paste from my harddrive to the MY PICTURES folder.
Thanks

daswede,

If it used to save to the my pictures folder the automatic save setting must have changed itself.
I'm not familiar with the HP program but in the Fuji software I use where you change the location of the folder is under <Settings <Automatic Save Settings.
You just then browse for the folder you want to put the pics into.

Greg,

I think you are right about a setting that is amiss. The camera settings are right as my wife, who shares the computer ,can upload her pics. to her MY PICTURES file using the H.P. Software program, and the same camera.
Thanks
daswede.

daswede,

So, let me get this straight.
She uses the same computer as you do, the same camera as you do but has a different "My Pictures" folder than you???.

Hmm,

This is new ground for me.
What normally determines the settings for automatic saving is in the photo software.
I am unsure of how you would get the software to point to two different My Pictures folders.

Maybe someone else has an idea.

If you're using the Kodak EasyShare software, go to Tools --> Preferences --> Transfer. There's an option to set up directory for the file transfer.

Kodak just upgraded their software, free for registered users. I got it at the link below:

Thumbs up Glad it worked out!

So, teach me something.
When you or your wife log in does the HP software save to two different My Pictures folders?

Yes. That probably explains why her camera uploads went to her MY PICTURES folder, but mine was off someplace else. We have seperate accounts on the same computer.

"My Pictures/My Docs/etc." is MS's attempt to distance users from the real file structure. Those desktop/start menu folders are just empty shortcut bins *pointing* at the semi-secret pirate's cave of C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\ .

Multiply that complication where we have multiple users wanting to share pretty much everything. Plus installed software is often sketchy about multiple user policy.

End the nonsense by creating a new C:\Documents\ folder, with subfolders as required (e.g. "Images\"). Right click "My Documents" for it's "Properties", then "Change target location". Any user can target "My..." desktop folders to this new common folder tree. Apps can be told to go there, too. Simpler.

Conserves disk space too, as Windows isn't saving multiples of the same file for every user. Digital photographers will recognize my understatement.
