Canon s5 converted to raw format capable camera

This is very nice to do but I got the software to permit my canon s5 to save in raw format rather than jpg.

This will permit me to post process my pictures or the good ones with a lot more control

any one had any experience with this and raw format processing ?

Hello geoimpala,

As far as I can tell the S5 can not save in Raw.
The only type of program that could allow the camera to save in raw MIGHT be a firmware update but I have not heard that this is possible.

What software do you have?

Greg,
Think I just read about something in a PopSci magazine a few months ago. A quick Google search showed several hacks for the S3 (what I have), but I'm not that into all the adjustments. I'm sure theres something similar for the S5. And its way more than just being able to shoot in RAW. You can play a couple of games, use the camera as a text reader, different display options, just all sorts of abilities that aren't there now.

It's my wifes camera anyway, if she's happy, why mess with it.

Oh, ok.

I knew that you could hack small devices but didn't consider one would try that with a digital camera.
I see that these updates are available but I would be sure to not do it if a person only had one camera or could not afford to mess up.
If you did get RAW support I would be sure you could get the software to read it.
You can not view RAW files in Windows.

Newer cameras can take RAW and JPEG at the same time.

Here is a link with some info.

Looks really interesting that you can add RAW but also a histogram which I find indispensable on my camera and for me more useful than RAW.

Greg,
The nice thing from what I read is that, it's not really a hack, per se. More like a small program that runs initially from the card. Nothing is permanently altered on the camera. All you have to do is remove the card, then re-power the camera and everything reverts back to normal, or something like that. Like I said, not what I would need to do for my uses.

I think that link may have been the same thing I saw.
