undecide!

Hello, I bought a digital camera, a canon rebel XTi, I want to use for my kid's soccer games, but I need to get a telephoto lens, I'n not a professional photographer so I dont want to spend a lot of money in a lens, any recommendations on what to buy?, any ideas or recommendations?

Thanks

Canon makes three inexpensive telephoto zoom lenses that I would consider:
EF-S 55-250mm (about $250)
EF 70-300mm (about $530)
EF 75-300mm (about $160)

All three are small and lightweight and will work well enough for snapshots. They also have image stabilization and auto focus. I would pick the 70-300 first, the 55-250 second and put the 75-300 in last place and it is no surprise that the image quality follows the price for the lens.

If your budget is more generous I would go for the 70-200 f4L IS for about $1'200. It will blow away any of the above three lenses but is in a totally different class for both quality and price.

I dont want to spend a lot of money in it, like I said I'm not a professional, just want to buy something to take pictures of my kid's games, something that is easy to use, I'm not familiar with all the features from the cam jet. If I get the EF 75-300mm will it work for me?

Thanks.

Yes, I think it will work very well. It has auto focus and image stabilization which makes taking great pictures much easier.

You might want to look into Tamron lenses too, they can be less expensive.

The entry level Tamron zooms are slightly less expensive (by about $40) than the Canon but lack image stabilization (VC as Tamron calls it). I feel that the benefits of stabilization are so important to a telephoto lens that it be a "must have" feature, especially for someone less experienced.
