Memory card types
I have a Nikon that takes an "SD" card, and an Olympus that uses an "SDHC". What are the differences? Can one card be swapped into the other camera without any problems?
Thanks

Good article. Thanks.
Is it possible that Nikon, as a cost cutting measure, might have put an SD card in the camera from the factory? It is a mid-price model. I would have thought that it wouldn't have an entry level card in it. Can I swap the SDHC card from the Olympus into the Nikon to see if performance is affected?
It's no big deal if I have to buy an SD card. I am wondering if I could keep it simple and put SDHC cards in both cameras.

Not sure, but you could try it. My guess is that if it's not compatible it simply won't work or you'll get an error message.
In theory, the SDHC device should be able to use both, but the SD device would only be able to use the SD.

Correct. The high capacity card will probably start at about 4 GB and up, and are not reverse compatible to SD devices. Just ask anyone who has bought one not knowing.......oh, that's me
