Transfer dvds to flash drive
Hello
In attempting to do so I was presented with three choices so I could not proceed without wiping out the files with same names. When I was making the discs the PC named them like 001,002 etc. So when I was copying different discs to flash it was obvious I either had to make a selection of the three choices the PC gave me which I have forgotten now like replace a file with one in desalination or do not copy etc. or rename all the files. I have 100's.
I am doing this b/c optical discs are on the way out. I was thinking though that a flash drive could go bad and all videos would be lost.
I guess I could rename all 1,2,3,4,through 600 +.
Could you share an opinion.

So make a second back-up one. You can just copy one flash to the second easily.

Thank you for that. What about the counting sequence, should I just name them 1- 500 or so or will the PC name them too and have trouble all over?.

Why are you copying your DVDs to flash drive? It sounds like you wish to archive them so they are available as technology changes. Just know that most flash drives use a USB format that is also on the way out. The version probably used by your flash drives is 2.0 which was released in 2000 and USB 3 has been out for quite a while already and Apple is pushing for its successor. So, don't assume that your flash drives are not becoming obsolete just like your optical drive.

keeping the family videos
I am trying to preserve the family videos with the best and safest media possible.
Some machines no longer have an optical bay.
I could use a 3.0 USB flash drive and when my machine is 3.0 it would be faster.
3 and 2 is backward compatible.
If there is a better media please let me know.
I figure instead of just transferring files which would be confusing as each has a different file name and the PC catches duplicates and asks you if you want to remove them, I could use a folder for each disc within the flash drive.
Otherwise I would have to rename hundreds of files.
