If the abs light comes on all by itself, it has its own little computer section to check the codes on. But if the brake system has a problem it will also most likely be on just from that.
Today's cars and trucks have electronics in everything. It used to be the brake light was on either from someone not adjusting the parking brake right, or a brake line broke.
Now it could be an electronic sensor on the master cylinder or who knows what.
This can most likely be scanned under warranty, it is a safety concern if the red brake light is on. I don't worry about the amber abs light in my cars since that just means abs will not function.
I bought a scanner for my newer car simply because it was out of warranty and autozone has one for maybe a hundred to 150 bucks for obdII vehicles, which yours is.
