89 gmc jimmy tailgate locking mechanism
how do you access the locking mech on the tailgate of an 89 gmc jimmy? the window will open but the tailgate will not, do you have to remove the complete panel?

Yes, the inside panel needs to be removed, and there usually is another metal plate covering the latch assembly. I can't say there's an easy way to do this (remove the panel) without getting the gate open.
