92 Ranger Clutch Problems
#1

I have a 92 Ranger that will not shift gears while running alot of grinding and truck lurches forward while running (only let it run 2-3 seconds after something popped then brought it home on a trailer) I have never replaced a clutch. 1. Do I have to remove the transmisison? 2. Will a Chiltons manual give me all the info (pictures) I need? Any idea on approximate cost? Thanks for any help anyone can give....................

yes you do have to remove transmission to replace the cluth, you should always replace the clutch and pressure plate and throwout bearing to avoid having to do it again, check the link below for more information. i believe this is a hydraulic controlled clutch so you may want to verify that you do have fluid in the master cylinder and no apparent leaks at the master or slave cylinder, cost wise you are probably looking at around 300 dollars just for the parts. you may want to call few shops and get an estimate on having them replace a clutch in your vehicle.
