Starter keeps turning

I have a 96 Chevy Silverado with 5.8 Liter. I replaced the starter
and when I try to connect the battery cables to the battery, the starter will automatically turn the engine over. I have checked all of the relays and fuses. Has anyone else had this problem on any similar or other types of vehicles?

sounds like something isnt hooked up correctly why did you replace the starter to begin with did you have this problem before replacing the starter?
the single wire with a small ring terminal is what comes from the ignition switch all other wires should be hooked to top post on solenoid, if you remove the small ring terminal wire on the starter and place it aside so it isnt grounded, and rehook the battery if it still turns over it is a starter problem, if it doesnt you will have to find out why the small terminal wire has power to it with the key off, possible ignition switch problem or shorted wiring.

I have had a similar problem with my '86 F-250. I went to crank it up one day and the starter engaged but would not disengauge. even after I removed the key. I freaked and ran to undo the battery cable. I had to hike to a friends and he came back to the truck with me. He tapped the starter solenoid a few times and it worked. The solenoid was going out, so I replaced it. Cost like 3-5 bucks. The problem has never happened again.

My solenoid is on the left side wall next to battery. I think on a chevy it's attached to the starter, so you may have gotten a bad solenoid on the starter. Would not be the first time thats happened. I have had to return atleast 4-5 parts that were defective when I bought them. My master cylinder twice.

Hope this helps.
