Unhappy differential

Hello in DiY land
with all the skinned knucles and bad deals It's good to know that I am still not alone doing this. My question is: How do I repair or, do i replace the differential unit. Problem is the large retainer pin is slopping around in the case from ware (abuse). Can I have the case machined and fitted with a sleive with a new retainer pin? 1994 Chevy chyenne 1500 4x4 problem is rear diff.

It depends on the extent of the damage. But most of the time its shot.

Check a junk yard for prices... but unless you have the know how and gumption to R&R the carrier I'd just swap the whole rear diff assembly out. If you do swap whole unit remember - 4x4 make sure the gear ration is the same in the replacement as the old.
