91 Mazda B2200 still has engine problem
I just changed my fuel filter and fuel pump on it last week. started fine, (problem was it was killing while moving and sometimes when ideling) drove a few miles in it today and it killed again at red light. (its a 5 spd w/170K miles). takes a few cranks to get restarted. any suggestions on what to check next? it studered a few time before it killed so I am asumining it is a fuel problem?

Problems
It could be a few things. Yes, it could be a fuel problem but it could also be an ignition problem. I would start by having your codes read. Did you have any of these problems before you changed your fuel filter and pump?

I had to have truck towed to machanic shop sunday. he's still trying to figure out why it keeps stalling out. may be the pick up coil. it just hasn't stalled on him in the shop for him to check it out when it has hard time starting. (the machanic is a close friend of mine)

Would you please come back when you find out what the problem was, and tell us? I would really like to know. And it will help other people when they search the bulletin board, for when they having similar problems.

91 Mazda engine problem
My 1992 B2200 had a hard starting and random stalling problem. After several attempts to correct the problem it was finally traced to the circuit board in the ECM Brain Box in the passenger side kick panel. I replaced the Brain Box and have had no problems for 18 months. The Brain Box is very expensive at the Dealer, Look for one at a wrecking yard.

My 92 b2200 fuel injected 165k would choke and fart while accelerating in any gear when the throttle is barely pressed. It would start rough and idle rough too. These era mazda ecu's have 2 capacitors in them that were prone to leaking and failing- this is what happened with mine. When I replaced the ecu with one from the local self serve auto wrecker, mine ran like a dream again.
Just to be clear, the capacitors that fail are for the fuel injection circuits and this is why the problem mimicks a fuel shortage/starvation.
Cheap repair if you get the Ecu from a self serve wrecker, or vice versa if you are an electronics guy the capacitors to repair the ecu yourself are pretty cheap- however, repairing an Ecu should not be undertaken by a novice as the capacitors leak an acid that corrodes the other circuits and needs to be neutralized before repair, also the board needs to be retreated with humi seal.
