Question 99 sierra starting problem

I have a 99 gmc sierra 4.8l engine. Sometimes when I try to start it, will start right up, but other times it will crank and crank like it is not getting any fuel. I had it looked at by a mechanic and he said that the fuel pump was going and it needed to be replaced. I replaced the fuel pump (complete module) myself but it is still doing the samething. sometimes it starts right up and sometimes it doesn't. Any other ideas of what to check would help!

first thing to do is while cranking check for fuel pressure and spark
get a fuel gage on it and find out what the presure is also watch when you let it sit and see if it bleeds back this could mean the regulator is bad let me know the results of preasure and spark whe condition exist

Had same problem with 94 chev, after replacing pump ,filter and relay, runinng codes 3 times ,getting fuel pressure checked ect ect it turned out to be igition modular,They can be checked and r fairly simple to remove.Had mine checked at 3 different shops they run 3 tests on them always failed first then pass next 2 so i replaced Prob was gone
