Question Transfer case problem.

I have a 1970 fj40 Landcruiser. I have a hard time getting the transfer case to take hold in low range? And then it may come out of gear when on a steep grade. Anyone know why? Thanks.

Check linkage?

Check the linkage on the shifter. Also the motor mounts, trans mounts, and transfer case mounting.

It could be a lot of things. It could be the things that hogfan says so check those out. Dose it only happen in low range? But, with a 34 year old T-case it could be just time for a rebuild.

Unhooked all the linkage, Shifted it by hand, and took it 4wheelin. It still slips in low but stays in when in the high side of the transfer case? Thanks for your help, After 34 years I will be happy it works at all.
