Winnebago Warrior RV

My battery went flat in my Winnebago Warrior RV (Chevy 6.2L V8 Diesel 1993)and I tried to start the engine with another battery, but I connected the wrong way round and there was a flash and a smell of burn coming from somewhere behind the engine. When I connected up correctly there were no lights on the dashboard and everything was dead, the engine would not crank. Can somebody please tell me what damage could I have done. I am from Ireland and there arent many of these engines here.

Thank you Sean Batt
