chevy s-10 manual hard to shift

Hi,

I did a manual transmission drain and refill. I also added Lucas oil. It drove fine the first day but from then on shifting seams harder and rougher than before the fluid replacement. Since there are no dip stick, I can't check the oil level.

I drained the fluid, replaced the nut and fill from the fill hole until fluid runs out. There are no leaks.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

what year is this vehicle if you added a thicker oil it can make a noticable difference in how easily it shifts escpecially when the fluid is cold and not up to operating temp.
could also be a clutch problem but if it still goes into gear without making any noise then it might just be the fluid.

It's a 1991 S-10. The clutch was replaced two years ago. I think you are right about the oil thickner. It only shifts hard when the engine is cold. The next chance I get I will replace the oil and this time no thickner or any other additives.

Thanks.

alot of models use automatic transmission fluid wich is about equivlent to 5w20 weight oil if you have your owners manual you may want to check to see what fluid it recomends.

The 77mm 5-speed and 4500 5-speed use Dexron-II ATF the 117mm 4-speed uses API GL5 SAE 80W90 gear lubricant the manufacture recomends useing Manulal Transmission Fluid (1052931 ) in 85mm 5-speed
