The 351W and 351M are nothing stretched out 302's. Unless you've got a "true" 351 Cleveland it's a small block. The real Clevelands were only made for 4 years in the 70's. They labeled the 351M as a Cleveland for a while but dropped it.

The only BB they made was 352, 390, 427, 428, 429, and 460.

Oh and by the way a "true" Cleveland was just called a big block by people. It really wasn't a big block.

Let's step back a pace or two...

There have been three disticntly different 351s... The 351W shares much with the 302 but the block is about 1" wider. Valve covers interchange and heads "may" interchange.

351C was short lived... Large ports and valves made it unpopular with both the EPA and gas crunch conscious consumers.

351M.... given the "M" classification for no other reason than to differentiate it from C and W engines... Has the same block and heads as the 400.

The 351/400 is the bulkiest of these engines and this is likely where the "big block" came from.

IIRC, the 351C and 351W share the same bellhousing flange while the 351M shares the same bellhousing flange as the 460.
