Question E350 diesel will not start

I have a 1988 E350, here resently it has been starting, running for a second, then dies, then would take a lot of turning over and pumping the gas pedel for it to start again. The Napa guy said there was air getting in my fuel line some how. Anyway, today it would not start, it turns over and seems not to be getting fuel. Anyone have a clue as to what is wrong???
Thanks,
Jones

Actually that sounds similar to what my Dads F250 did when the glowplugs were crapping out. Turned out 7 of the 8 plugs were no longer working, no wonder it was getting so hard to start!

Do you know it isnt getting fuel or is that just a guess?
