Angry 1990 chevy k1500 speedometer drops to zero

I have a 1990 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 and the the speedometer will drop to zero while driiving down the road if I rap on the dash it will come back up it's not a constant thing and it seems after it gets warmed up? say 30min or so it will operate normallly, also it does'nt seem to make any difference on the road conditions. I have changed out the guage on the dash thinking it may have had a dead spot? in it,not w/ a new one but 1 from a salvage yard but the problem persists any ideas??

If the problem STILL persists after you change out the cluster, then it could be your speed sensor. It can be the sensor is bad, or
a bad connection.

Alot of the times though, it's a gear in the cluster, or a worn needle.
