warn electric winch

i have an 8000 lb warn electric winch. it's hooked up right. the other day though the solenoids were heating up or so i thought. the wires goin down in there have heated up and melted the insulation. nothing is touching but the winch doesn't have the same power. it works but barely. any ideas?

Carlosryan:

Your gearbox may be wornout and binding so the motor overheated when trying to drive it.

The other possibility is the electric motor is at fault.

I would disassemble the motor away from the gearbox if possible and check both independent of each other. That would tell which would have to be replaced.

Hope this helps,

Bob
