Got the blues

I have an 88 Ford E350, Desiel, it is running ok, well seems ok, but the exhaust is always blue and very smokey and very pungent smelling. What is the problem???
Thanks,
Jones

It could be:

Clogged PCV valve

Piston ring set

Piston

Valve guides

Valve stem

Worn engine block

or rich fuel

I would check the PCV valve or the possible rich fuel. Those are your cheapest.

blue smoke is mainly oil and unburnt fuel due to damaged motor.

Disregard the PCV valve. Diesels do not have them. To check if you have a motor issue, have someone do a compression check on the cylinders.

When was the last time you changed the injectors? A poor fuel spray will cause a white somtimes blueish smoke. I would recomend changing them because if you dont have a good spray of fuel it can pit the top of the piston.

I think michaeljp86 got it....bad injectors will cause bluish smoke and the pungent smell is indicative of bad injection. Blue smoke is normally caused by oil....diesel fuel IS oil.
